He just thinks she is funny. Perhaps he suspects those smiles of hers are not as genuine as they look and he wheedles at it and she doesn't like it? Haru is very perceptive, very observant. Impatient, he went so far as to put up flyers around Clearwater in places he hoped his fighter might go, all handwritten as neatly as he could. The one who answered was not what he'd expected. After first having the daylights scared out of him (would someone really do that, attack an unarmed sacrifice? Yasu hadn't even thought of it), Yasu did admire him that first day. That he would resort to such an extreme to make his point, that he was already concerned for Yasu's well-being. Despite being older, Yasu was in awe of him, this cool guy who held himself like he had all the confidence in the world—which, he probably did. Yasu's cheeks burned at the thought of this being the one meant for him, his heart racing as he imagined kis— But no. Heartbreakingly, Haru didn't seem to share his sentiments on soulmates, or at least he never said so. So Yasu came to view him as something like a brother, though the word is admittedly lacking. A protector, for all that he tended to cause Yasu undue stress and embarrassment; a confidant. But then the time came for Yasu to leave, and somehow Haru just didn't understand. He was angry. Yasu was hurt. At first, he was afraid to even make a simple phone call, unwilling for them to fight. Time passed and he worked up the nerve, but it again was not what he expected. Haru... didn't seem to care. About him, that he'd left, anything. This was worse. From then on, though, Yasu kept in regular contact with him, determined to win him over again in some fashion. He's slightly ashamed to think it, but Yasu was more anxious to meet Haru again than even his own parents, his sister, when he accepted defeat and came back home. But still, it got worse. Haru's ears—they were gone. It must have been alarming, the way Yasu's mood, his hope, just shattered so visibly. How humiliating, that he had somewhere in his mind come to suspect that Haru's anger with him for leaving may have had something to do with... well. It was foolish. Yasu was foolish. He forced a smile—not immediately, but eventually—and has done his best to fit their relationship into the same shape it was before. tl;dr – Yasu is dense, the end.
